Media Production (9-12) 1/2 english Credit.

Course Description

Students in this course produce several video taped productions and broadcasts using the Digital Video Format. Class activities include planning each broadcast, gathering information for productions, interviewing, writing scripts, video taping, producing effective character generation, designing layouts and shots for television and producing the final product by broadcast deadlines. The skills learned in Film Study and Literature to Film will help students achieve success in this class.

Colorado Model Content Standards for Theatre

  1. Students develop interpersonal skills and problem solving capabilities through group interaction and artistic collaboration.
  2. Students understand and apply the creative process to fundamental skills of acting, play writing, and directing.
  3. Students understand and apply the creative process to skills of design and technical production.
  4. Students understand and relate the role of theatre arts to culture and history.
  5. Students analyze and assess the characteristics, merits, and meanings of traditional and modern forms of dramatic expression.
  6. Students know and apply connections between theatre and other disciplines.

 

Students progress through this course completing numerous assignments, the assignments can be completed in any order, but students will be responsible to finish a set number of points each quarter.

Careers in the Film Industry - Students will create a Power point revealing numerous careers in the film industry.

PSA - Public Service Announcements serve to share information that is considered a benefit, warning or information to society. You will create your own PSA.

Camera Technique - A list of camera techniques are given and students will make a video displaying each technique.

Director's Bio - Students will create an illustrated video biography of a film director.

Activity List - Quarter Two Week one and two

Second Quarter videos. All videos at this point of the course, should contain multiple shots, multiple locations, and multiple transistions. Each video should also contain a proper credits section.

Sound Effects - The students will film a short narrative and add as many sound effects as possible to enhance the narrative.
Historical Event - Students investigate an historical event and make a one minute video documenting that event visually.

Lip Syncing - Students will create a lip syncing video, and master the editing technique.

Great Story - What makes a great movie story? Students will research screen writing process and write a paper on the components of a great story.

Web Posting - Share your project or talents with the world, students will post to YouTube and beyond. (Extra Credit)

Film Terminology - Students will demonstrate film terminology by making a sample video of shots, a video dictionary.

Nature Video - Students will demonstrate camera technique and creativity by making a video of elements of nature. 
Biography Video - Students will demonstrate camera technique, creativity, and biographical information by making a video on one famous or not so famous individual. 
Documentary - Advanced students interested in tackling a documentary are given the how to instructions here.

Autobiography Video - Students will demonstrate camera technique, creativity, and autobiographical information by making a video on themselves. 
Point of View Video - Students will demonstrate camera technique, creativity, by utilizing the technique called point of view (POV) and create a video.

School Spirit Video - Students will take advantage of numerous events in the building and record them and transfer to DVD. Items might include, school play, club activities, homecoming, games or pep assemblies.

Writing a Pitch - Pitches are used to sell your idea of a movie to the studio. Your job will be to develop a pitch for a movie of your own making.

Activity List -Quarter Two

Interviewing Mom and Dad - Interview your parents, either your mom or your dad, attempt to discover something interesting about their life. Odd jobs they held, unusual events that they witnessed.
Topic Video - How will technology change your life? Make a video that describes how your life will be different because of technology in 5, 10 or 15 years.
  Silent Movie - Create a silent movie, tinting your image to fit the period of silent movies, using visually accurate title cards.
